  • Doctorate at the Institute of Human Genetics, University of Bonn (magna cum laude)
  • Half-year stay in Central America (state hospital and development aid projects)
  • Ward doctor in Paderborn children's hospital
  • later worked in a joint practice

  • Member of the Land executive of the CDU, North Rhine-Westphalia since 1997
  • Member of the central committee of German Catholics
  • Member of the European Parliament since 1994
  • Member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Consumer Protection and deputy member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs
